Five Great Coffee Spots in the Financial District

Happy Monday #bossyones! Cold winter mornings make it extra tough to get up and going, so this week we're exploring five great independent coffee spots in Toronto's Financial District where you can get your caffeine fix.

Over the past few weeks I've taste-tested every cup of coffee that I could get my hands on, so it's with caffeine-induced jitters that I present you with my top five favs:

Mos Mos Coffee

Mos Mos is a great little coffee spot nestled in the PATH under Commerce Court. The delicious coffee and great service make the long (but fast-moving) lineup worth it. If you're feeling peckish, they offer a yummy selection of baked goods, juices and a few pre-made sandwiches (preservative and artificial flavour-free). Mos Mos is strictly to-go and is located right beside King Station for maximum convenience. It's also worth mentioning that they have amazing insulated cups that won't burn your hands as you rush back to the office. Check them out here

  • Location: Commerce Court, concourse level (PATH-accessible)
  • Seating: No
  • Small Coffee: $1.76 +tax
  • Food: Snacks
  • Wi-Fi: No
  • Patio: No

Dineen Coffee Company

Dineen is a fan-favourite in the Financial District because of its delicious coffee and great atmosphere. It is beautifully-decorated, brightly-lit and offers both standing and sitting room. In warmer months, Dineen opens a small patio on Temperance Street where you can enjoy a coffee and watch the hustle and bustle. This place is a great spot for a casual business meeting or coffee with friends. Dineen also offers a selection of sandwiches and baked goods, as well as yogurt parfaits in the mornings. Check them out here

  • Location: 140 Yonge Street, corner of Yonge and Temperance
  • Seating: Yes
  • Small Coffee: $2.89 +tax
  • Food: Snacks
  • Wi-Fi: Yes
  • Patio: Yes (seasonal)

Maman

Maman (pictured above) is a SoHo-based cafe and bakery that recently opened its second location in Toronto. Inspired by Southern French cuisine and culture, it's prettier-than-can-be and smells heavenly. Maman is conveniently located in First Canadian Place and offers a delicious array of sandwiches, salads, quiches and baked goods made fresh daily (available for dine-in or take-out). Despite being right in the heart of the city, Maman is all painted cabinets, pots of herbs and French chatter - tellement mignon! In warmer months Maman boasts a small, sun-filled patio for guests. Check them out here

  • Location: First Canadian Place, mezzanine (PATH-accessible)
  • Seating: Yes
  • Food: Full Menu and Bakery
  • Wi-Fi:  Yes
  • Patio: Yes (seasonal)

Cafe Plenty

Cafe Plenty is an independent cafe inspired by the gourmet food culture of London and Paris. Unlike many coffee shops, Cafe Plenty offers a seasonal, homemade (yes - they make everything from scratch!) breakfast and lunch menu, as well as a variety of baked goods. My personal favourites are the club sandwich and the blondies. You can sit and enjoy your coffee/treat at the counter or grab your caffeine-fix to go. Cafe Plenty also has a second location a few minutes walk from St. Patrick Station. Check them out here

  • Location: 1 King Street West (PATH-accessible through hotel)
  • Seating: Yes
  • Small Coffee: $1.60 +tax
  • Food: Full Menu and Bakery
  • Wi-Fi: No
  • Patio: No

M Square Coffee Co.

M Square is a decidedly cool coffee shop tucked under the Sheraton Centre. The coffee is great, the service is super-friendly and the edgy decor offers a perfect escape from this otherwise-dingy section of the PATH. M Square has a variety of brews, teas and beans, as well as a selection of baked goods (with vegan options), making it the perfect place for an afternoon caffeine break. Shout out to the staff for making me a particularly pretty cappuccino for my Instagram! Check them out here

  • Location: Sheraton Centre, concourse level (PATH-accessible)
  • Seating: Yes
  • Small Coffee: $2.00 +tax
  • Food: Snacks
  • Wi-Fi: Yes
  • Patio: No
